IBM Download Director and x64 Windows

Recently I changed my PC, now I'm using Windows 7 64-bit edition.

It seems there is some 'gotcha' in this configuration - I cannot make
IBM Download Director to be working.
Of course the PC is behind the firewall, etc. However I tried the same
configuration - JAVA level, browser type & version, the same settings
and it still does not work under Win x64.
Funny observation: I can use other PC with Windows 32-bit or even
Windows XP (32-bit) in virtual machine working under the Win7 x64
workstation!

Has anyone noticed problems with Download Director and 64-bit Windows?
Any clue?

I will bet that the Download director software has some JNI code which is
Windows 32-bit specific in it somewhere.

I have just used Download Director with 64-bit Windows 7 a couple of minutes ago.
I can only get it to work on Firefox or Chrome which is odd.
( I have to drop our VPN connection to get it to work but that's another story)

Could this be the solution:

Java plug in issue with Download Director under Software Downloads.

Users might encountered issues when downloading software with download
director. Problems reported will be such as security settings blocked or
error message such as untrusted or wrong certificates .

Cause: Java has further enhanced security to make the user system less
vulnerable to external exploits. Starting with Java 7 Update 51, Java does
not allow users to run applications that are not signed (unsigned),
self-signed (not signed by trusted authority) or that are missing
permission attributes.

Solution: We are currently working to comply with security guidelines
implemented in Java 7 Update 51. Meanwhile you can use the Exception Site
list feature to run the applications blocked by security settings. Adding
the URL of the blocked application to the Exception Site list allows it to
run with some warnings.

Please follow the below steps as a workaround.

- Go to the *Java Control Panel* (On Windows Click Start and then
Configure Java)
- Click on the *Security tab*
- Click on the *Edit Site List* button
- Click *Add* in the Exception Site List window.
- Click in the empty field under the Location field to enter the URL
