Immortals Fenyx Rising beginner’s guide

The main character from Immortals Fenyx Rising stands in space

Saving nearly the entire Greek pantheon is no small task. In Immortals Fenyx Rising, it’s your job to do just that.

To bring some of the most famous mythological figures back from the clutches of evil, you’ll have to hack, slash, and explore through several connected areas. How you choose to save your godly pals is entirely up to you.

In this Immortals Fenyx Rising beginner’s guide, we’ll explain its systems and show you the best ways to explore, fight, and upgrade your gear. These tips and tricks will give you a leg up in the early game and carry you through the rest of your journey.

Make your own map

Maps in large Ubisoft games tend to be overstuffed with dozens of icons detailing the locations of power-ups, side missions, and collectibles. It can feel overwhelming and confusing.

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, you decide how much of your map is filled with icons. Any time you stand atop cliff, statue, or building, you can press the scout button to take a look around with Far Sight. As you scan across map, your cursor shine when pointing at a significant location. If you’re playing with a controller, it will rumble the closer your cursor gets.

Once you have your cursor over something, you can reveal it. Doing so will add an icon on your map.

You can scout as much as you like whenever you enter a new area. The benefit of this system is that by actually looking at your surroundings and pinpointing places of interest, you’re developing context for where these collectibles are. Instead of the game automatically placing points of interest on your map, you can decide how cluttered or clean your map looks.

Climbing to the top of most tall places in the game — pillars, buildings, or the natural landscape — is also helpful as you’ll often find power-ups and loot on top of them you may have not seen otherwise through scouting. Once you grab the loot, be sure to use those locations to scout.

Boost your stamina ASAP

Fenyx has a lot of mobility options, and you can run, double jump, glide, and swim with ease. While all of these abilities make exploring easier, they all consume a lot of stamina. One of the best ways to maximize your mobility in Immortals Fenyx Rising is to boost your stamina.

You gain the ability to increase your stamina at the Bench of Zeus in the Hall of the Gods. Using this facility allows you to add another chunk of stamina each time you drop a few pieces of Zeus’s Lightning into it.

It takes several bits of lightning to increase your total amount of stamina. The best way to get more of them is to complete the various Vaults of Tartaros found around the island. To find more of them, be sure to scout often.

Unlock stamina and quality of life upgrades first at the River Styx Cistern

Once you make your way to the Hall of the Gods, you can unlock new abilities and Godly Powers at the River Styx Cistern.

Prioritize skills that increase your stamina. You can always get stronger by upgrading weapons and armor, but the River Styx Cistern is the only way you can make your stamina-consuming abilities better.

At the bottom right of the Skills menu, you’ll find Telekinesis Gathering, which automatically collects all nearby ingredients when you pick one. You’ll hit the collect button constantly in Immortals Fenyx Rising. This quality of life improvement allows you to hit it a lot less. Buy it, and smile every time you approach half a dozen blue flowers and collect them all with a single button press.

Armor and weapon upgrades affect everything

There are plenty of pieces of armor and weapons to find in Immortals Fenyx Rising. Each of them has different buffs that you may want to swap through while you play.

Unlike many games, in which upgrading only affects a single piece of gear, improving any weapon or piece of armor in this game affects any current and future gear you find.

To maximize the potential of your armor and weapons when upgrading at the Forge of Hephaistos in the Hall of the Gods, scout often to find new gear, and pay attention to the perks they offer. Choose the armor based on the perks you like best, and then upgrade your gear to grant offensive and defensive buffs to all them.

Another aspect of armor and weapons worth noting: You can customize any piece of gear to take the appearance of any other gear at any time. So contrary to other games where there’s a cost to transmogrify items, in Immortals Fenyx Rising you don’t have to sacrifice style.

In the Menu, highlight the gear’s whose appearance you want to change, and then select Customize. From there, you can change the appearance of your gear while keeping its unique buffs.

Throw things for massive damage

Fenyx begins Immortals Fenyx Rising as a relative weakling — as you do in video games — but strengthening as you play (… as you do in video games). You’ll earn your first Godly Power, Herakles’s Strength, within you first hour or so. That allows you to pick up and throw objects like rocks and big boxes.

One of the biggest benefits of throwing objects at enemies is that they cause a serious amount of damage, especially relative to Fenyx’s strength early on.

The effectiveness of chucking objects at enemies is greatly amplified if you have the Mane of Pride, a helmet that causes 150% damage against unharmed enemies. Look for this helmet in a chest near the location where you pick up Herakles’s Strength. And then look for rocks to pick up and toss at enemies who haven’t taken any damage yet, and then watch their health disappear by hundreds of points at a time.

Use the sword for small guys, and the axe for big guys

Right at the very beginning of the game, you get two melee weapons: the Sword of Achilles and the Axe of Atalanta.

The Sword of Achilles excels at fast strikes, especially when you pull off a dodge and time slows momentarily. Use the sword in situations where you want to deal fast damage to enemies’ red health bars — and the smaller the enemy, the better. It’s also a great tool to use when flying enemies get close enough to hit by double jumping toward them and slashing away.

The Axe of Atalanta, on the other hand, is most effective when you want to cause stun damage to an enemy’s blue bar. You’ll learn pretty quickly that enemies with shields deflect your sword strikes but stagger when hit with the axe. Assault them enough with the large weapon, and they’ll expose themselves, allowing you to follow with faster sword strikes.

You can combine it, too. Use the axe on large enemies with huge health bars to fill their blue bars and knock them out temporarily, and then switch back to your sword and whale away while they’re down.
